Father Don't Cry (extended) / T.H.C. (unreleased) / Turn A New Leaf / Excrement / Movie 13 / That Problem Child / Majickal Horse (unreleased) / Come In Peace

Personnel: cEVIN Key and D.R. Goettel. Produced, engineered, and mixed by cEVIN Key, D.R. Goettel, and David Ogilvie. Edited by Anthony Valcic. Additional editing by Marc Ramaer. Recorded at Vancouver Studios, 1990.

Notes: This reissue is also referred to as SUB 009. Several misspellings plague the Metropolis and Off Beat releases (The track "Xcrement" is spelled "Excrement", recorded at Vancover Studios, edited by Anthony Valvic, etc). "Come In Peace" seems to be a slightly different mix (the opening synth tones are higher and with less bass) than the version that initially appeared on "The Infidel", though this could just be a difference in mastering.  There is a promotional release of the 1991 CD.  The CD has the following words printed on it: NOT FOR SALE/FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY.

The 2 unreleased tracks are listed as being recorded at Subconscious Studios 1994.

The Metropolis reissue is housed in a digipack and features entirely different cover art from the earlier Wax Trax! release. The Off Beat release was housed in a regular jewel case, and includes still more completely different cover artwork.

>>> THE FLU <<<

A lo-fi jam/experimental/rock project featuring cEvin, Dwayne, and Al Nelson (vocalist/frontman for Vancouver punk bands Illegal Youth, Two Lovely Children, Politik Crash, Mystery Date, and projectionist/lighting designer for Skinny Puppy's 1985-1990 tours), The Flu recorded sporadically, chiefly while cEVIN lived in Toronto during 1987. This band is in many ways a precursor to the better known Hilt. This trio recorded, according to Key, approximately 7 LPs worth of material from 1985-1990, some of which may still see release as Hilt.

Notes: This 5-track, 30-minute set is completely different than the "Patsy" tape listed below. The version of 'Swimming I.P.' on this cassette runs at approximately 6.04, a full 3 minutes shorter than the mix contained on 'Patsy'. 'The House Is Full Of Shiite' on this release is an entirely different track than the one under the same title on the 'Patsy' cassette. This version of 'The House Is Full Of Shiite' is the one included on 'The Worst Of The Flu'. Some of this material appeared on the Hilt CD, 'The Worst of the Flu', released on Subconscious in 2003 and listed below.

Personnel: cEvin Key, Ken Tokefly, Alan Nelson (aka Aloo GOBI).

Notes: This 90-minute cassette was intended to be released on the Swedish tape label Osmium. The label went bankrupt before this was officially released, but copies have reached tape-trading circles. The material was recorded on 4-track in the years 1984-1988. According to info sent by Key to the Osmium label, 'Patsy' is number 5 & 6 in the unreleased "In My Head Tape Series". There was at the time a total of 8 editions in this series (none of them officially released). "The version of 'Swimming I.P. on this release runs at 9.04, 3 minutes longer than the mix contained on the above untitled Flu cassette. Some of this material appeared on the Hilt CD, 'The Worst of the Flu', released on Subconscious in 2003 and listed below.

>>> HELL 'O' DEATH DAY <<<

This was the name Key and Ogre used (in place of Skinny Puppy) as they performed (possibly 5) shows in 1985 opening for Chris & Cosey in Canada. The material they performed appeared as the bonus tracks on the 'Remission' and 'Bites' cassettes. This material was later released on the reissues of the 'Remission' and 'Bites' CDs.

This obscure project was initiated around 1995 or so, and consisted of Key, Goettel, Western, and friends including someone named Justin (likely Bennett, ex-Professional Murder Music/Thrill Kill Kult and later assisting with cEvin Key and Skinny Puppy material). Nothing has ever been released under this name, though it has been mentioned as being very acoustic (ala Hilt) and jazzy in sound, with Western performing some vocals. Western has called this 'pretty retarded jams' and deems it unsuitable for release.

>>> MUTEUAL MORTUARY <<<

Ogre and Bill Leeb recorded several tracks under this name while Leeb was still a member of Skinny Puppy, only two of which were ever released. Ogre maintains that the material was incomplete and he is not happy that it was released.

Notes: This release contains re-recorded versions of the original Ogre/Walk tracks recorded in 1995 for American Recordings under the band name W.E.L.T. A special edition (catalog number 6-70211-5019-2 above) was limited to 4000 copies, adding extra pop-up artwork by comic artist Roman Dirge of 'Lenore' fame. 2000 copies were autographed, and a random number included extra 'doodles'.  Most if not all of the pop-up limited editions that were not signed include the video for cracker and have a sticker on the plastic wrap that states “feat. skinny puppy vocalist Ogre includes enhanced video for ‘cracker’”.  The signed pop-ups do not contain the video for ‘Cracker’.

The first listed release was an advance copy in a cardboard sleeve. In place of the Roman Dirge cover art, this advance copy had only a scrawled OhGr logo and 'Welt' on it, and erroneously listed the release date as 'February 2001'. The UK CD includes a sticker affixed advertising: "From Skinny Puppy's Nivek "Ogre" Ogilvie". German copies include a sticker on the jewel case as follows: "Featuring Skinny Puppy's Nivek 'Ogre' Ogilvie".

>>> P.T.P. <<<

P.T.P. (Programming The Psychodrill) was a Ministry / Revolting Cocks side project that featured Ogre on vocals for the track "Show Me Your Spine" which appeared in the film Robocop during a nightclub scene. The track did not appear on the soundtrack album, however, and Ogre did not work on the P.T.P. material that ended up being released as the "Rubber Glove Seduction" EP. 'Show Me Your Spine' was finally released officially on Ministry's 'Side Trax' CD in 2004. Details can be found in the 'Guest Appearances' section of this discography.

>>> PIGFACE <<<

Martin Atkins' industrial-dance-rock "supergroup" that often features Ogre as a part of its rotating line-up. Only the Pigface releases that include Ogre's participation are included here. Although it is recognized that these are nothing more than guest appearances on Pigface releases, I hesitate to move them over to that section as the sheer amount of Pigface material Ogre has appeared on through the years would scatter them all over the 'Guest Appearances' section.

Initially inspired by Key, Western, and Anthony 'Fu' Valcic's enthusiasm for the Detroit/Berlin axis of minimalist techno and the finest Amsterdam greenery, this project later evolved into a lush, semi-ambient electronic parallel to Download. After the initial releases, Valcic left and the group continued as a duo consisting solely of Key and Western, with occasional input from other friends and acquaintances.

>>> VOICE <<<

This Edmonton based band was originally called Office and featured Dwayne as a member before he moved to Vancouver and joined Skinny Puppy. Before joining Office, Dwayne was a member of The Pinstripe Club with the Huss brothers, who became known as Psyche after Dwayne left.

The version included here was a demo version, and Voice's appearance on this LP eventually led to the band being signed to Switch Records.

Lime / Business As Usual In Beirut / Wake Up Dreaming / I Am The Walrus

Personnel: Malcolm Swann (lead vocals), Sherri Iwaschuk (drums, percussion, vocals), Dwayne Goettel (keyboards, drum programming), Rod Wolfe (bass, keyboards, vocals), Bill Damur (guitars, lute, vocals). Produced by Dave Findlay and Malcolm Swann. Engineered by Dave Findlay. Recorded at Zone 5, February 1985. Writing credits: Lime (Swann / Goettel), Business As Usual in Beirut (Damur / Wolfe), Wake up Dreaming (Swann / Goettel), I Am The Walrus (Lennon / McCartney).

>>> WATER <<<

An Edmonton-based band that Dwayne Goettel was involved with just prior to joining Skinny Puppy in 1986. Dwayne (with vocalist Mandy Cousins, who now records as half of the duo Titania) opened at least one show for Puppy back in 1986, and his technical wizardry so impressed Key and Ogre that they asked him to join Puppy. Water did not release any recordings officially, although some tracks were recorded with producer/engineer Dixon Christie in Edmonton.

>>> W.E.L.T. <<<

W.E.L.T. (When Everyone Learns the Truth) was originally announced during the time of Ogre's work with Ministry (1989/90) as a collaboration between Ogre and Al Jourgensen (with former Front Line Assembly member Michael Balch, who was then a member of the Revolting Cocks). After Skinny Puppy's "falling out" with Jourgensen, it then became a project featuring Ogre, Paul Raven and John Bechdel (both of Killing Joke/Murder Inc.), Chris Sheppard (a Toronto DJ), and others. This line-up also fell apart. No W.E.L.T. material from either of these lineups has been released (except for the Ogre/Jourgensen/Balch track "Noreen" which appeared on the unofficial AIN'T ENOUGH DAMN PUPPY cassette, listed in the 'SKINNY PUPPY bootlegs and compilations' section of this discography). The W.E.L.T. project was reinstated during the sessions for SKINNY PUPPY's 'The Process', with Ogre joined by producer Mark Walk. Their first album, which was to be called 'Bedside Toxicology' (a title since used by Ogre on his Rx/Ritalin album), was due for release on American Recordings in 1996 before the label folded, and was never released. After some years of inactivity, the duo eventually regained the rights to the work and re-recorded the tracks for release under the new band name Ohgr (as another unrelated band had, in the meantime, staked legal claim to the name 'Welt'). For more details, see the Ogre and Mark Walk and Ohgr sections above.
