Part 2: Download

Download sprang from late night informal jam sessions started in 1994 by cEvin, Dwayne, Mark Spybey (of Dead Voices On Air) and DJ Philth (Phil Western). The first album and EP featured this line-up as well as guest Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV), and later incarnations of the band included Ken 'Hiwatt' Marshall and Anthony 'Fu' Valcic. Following Dwayne's death, Philth left the project, but eventually rejoined. Mark Spybey left the group in March, 1997. The group now consists of Key and Western, with various friends, guests, and associates, and records sporadically in-between their many other projects.

FURNACE (FOUR SONG ADVANCE EP)

x CDEP 1995 Cleopatra CLEO 9652 US

Omniman / Cannaya / Stone Grey Soil / Attalal

Notes: Promotional release in card sleeve distributed by Cleopatra several weeks before the release of FURNACE. cEvin has mentioned that these may be slightly different mixes that those later appearing on FURNACE. 'Omniman' indeed does appear in an early, raw mix (as yet unreleased elsewhere), though the other 3 tracks appear to be the same as the regular release versions, with no discernable differences.

Mallade / Seel Hole / Omniman / Cannaya / Sigesang / Stone Grey Soil / Mother Sonne / Attalal / Lebanull / Beehatch / Noh Mans Land / Marred / Hevel

Personnel: Dwayne Goettel, Philth, Mark Spybey, cEvin Key, with guest Genesis P-Orridge on 3 tracks. Engineered and produced by cEVIN Key. Mastered by Anthony Valcic. Recorded at Subconscious May-July 1995. 3-4 tracks here were mixed by Dave 'Rave' Ogilvie, including 'Sigesang', though he opted to remain uncredited for his work.

Notes: Initial copies of the German release have stickers on the front that read 'former Skinny Puppy' and 'Dedicated to Dwayne R. Goettel, 23.08.95'. The US release has 'Dedicated To And In Memory of Dwayne Goettel (aka The Duck) printed on the outer back cover, and a sticker on front stating: "Download is cEvin Key, Dwayne Goettel of Skinny Puppy, Philth, Mark Spybey ex-Zoviet France & guest Genesis P-Orridge ov Psychic TV". It should also be noted that that some pressings have a green number "01" on a black background (on the CD itself) while others have a black "01" on a green background.

Also referred to as having release number SUB 002, although the European release is numbered SUB 003 by mistake.

A promotional copy of the BLCK-85936 cd was released in Japan.  The promotional copy has a sticker over the barcode on the obi strip that says “for promotion only, not for resale” and has the word “sample” printed on the cd.

Additionally, there is a Russian bootleg copy circulating that looks official.  The covers and CD itself look authentic even when compared with an authentic copy.  The CD says ‘2003 Irond Ltd. Under the license from Cleoptra’; however, Cleoptra disputes this.  The CD catalog is listed as: “IROND CD 03-528/DD33”.

Suni C / Possession / The Turin Cloud / Glassblower / H Sien Influence / Base Metal / Collision / Sidewinder / Outafter / Killfly / Separate / Seven Plagues / Fire This Ground (Puppy Gristle Part 1) / The Eyes of Stanley Pain

Personnel: cEvin Key, Dwayne R. Goettel, Mark Spybey, Ken Marshall, with guests Genesis P-Orridge (3 tracks), Anthony Valcic (keys on "Glassblower"), Larry Thrasher (drum on "Fire This Ground"), Philth (keys on "Collision"). Produced by cEvin Key and Ken Marshall. Engineered and mixed by Ken Marshall at Subconscious and WS Studios Vancouver, assisted by Chris Peterson and Delwyn Brooks. Digital mastering by Anthony Valcic. The track 'Fire This Ground (Puppy Gristle Part 1)' is a segment of the 40-minute jam between Skinny Puppy and Psychic TV members. This segment appears in it's entirety (and with added vocal overdubs by Ogre and Genesis) on the Skinny Puppy release, 'Puppy Gristle'. For more details see the Skinny Puppy section of the discography.

Notes: First release is promotional and was given same catalog number as the promo edition of the SIDEWINDER EP by mistake. It has the track "H Sien Influence" mistitled "It Sein Influence".

Off Beat Germany released a promo edition with a full color glossy card sleeve rather than a digipack. This promo edition had the same catalog # as the standard OffBeat copies (085-22502). Some later US promo copies had the same catalog # as the regular US release. The North American copies are in very thin digipacks, while the European copies have more durable, thicker-stock digipacks.

Also referred to as having release number SUB 008.

Recorded at Subconscious Studios Vancouver BC, assembled from Download jam DATs 14-21. Edited by cEvin Key and Omar Torres 2001. "The original gathering. cEvin Key, Phil Western, DR Goettel, Mark Spybey. Recorded at Subconscious studios direct to disk. These edits are unreleased. This is the noise beat era of Download. Furnace era to Eyes of Stanley Pain!" SUB14 was originally slated to be the 'Moth' remix EP. 'Left The Radio On' is an early (instrumental) version of 'Sidewinder Snake', complete with the random (uncleared) radio samples that caused this track to remain unreleased outside of a promo-only version of the 'Sidewinder' CDEP (see info above). 'Tweeter Blower' originally appeared in different form on the earlier Download release of 'Charlie's Family'. Several of these tracks originally appeared on the 'Download Tester' cassette mentioned in the cEvin Key solo section of this discography, and originate from the same sessions as much of that material. This was a limited subscription-only release of 1000 copies available through Subconscious mailorder. SUB14b is the second pressing, also limited to 1000 copies and available exclusively through Subconscious mailorder. This second edition is remastered by Brad Vance @ DNA, comes housed in a digipack, and omits 'Left The Radio On' from the tracklisting, though the song does appear on the CD. The third pressing corrects the tracklisting error and adds a different colour scheme to the cover art.  The first two pressings have a red colour scheme while the third pressing has a blue colour scheme.
