5.3 Modem

MBSI was mandated by Conexant Systems Inc. to provide assistance in developing and distributing the drivers for the Conexant HSF (softmodem) family. The drivers for the modem with the laptop can be found at http://www.mbsi.ca/hsflinux/.

Installing the latest driver, will make things work smoothly. You may then proceed to configure the modem as usual. A utility, such as rp3-config under Red Hat 7.2 can be used to configure the modem.

To make the modem correctly function, it is necessary to patch your kernel with the ACPI code, otherwise, an IRQ conflict may cause you problems. The ACPI section is at the end of this document.
