Taken from an Imac which I setup with Linux. This page is not really hosted on the imac, but once was!

imac.ppgweb.com

This web server is running on Apache from an iMac, using LinuxPPC, the Mac equivalent for Linux.
(yes, it is possible to run both Mac OS and LinuxPPC on the same hard drive).

uname -a produces some interesting results:
Linux imac.ppgweb.com 2.2.6-15apmac #1 Mon May 31 03:54:09 EDT 1999 ppc unknown

Screenshots

Below are some screenshots from my desktop.
I use WindowMaker 0.60.0 and run applications as I normally would for Linux x86.

Extra Stuff

Installing LinuxPPC onto an iMac

First, download Fetch for MacOS and from that application, download LinuxPPC from ftp.eecs.umich.edu
(please note: download each directory by directory, as most files in the ftp site are symbolic links).

The installation guide for installing LinuxPPC can be viewed here

Once installed, these tricks may help you get the iMac running to its' full potential:

X-Windows

To put the iMac's monitor to full use, download the configuration file for the X Server, XF86Config and copy it as /etc/X11/XF86Config.
Then, reboot the system and pass these arguments to the kernel (during XBoot):
video=atyfb:vmode:17 and uncheck the No Video Driver box.

Start up X-Windows as you normally would, and the resolution will be in 1024x768 or 800x600.

Free Software

Once you're finished setting it up, download some cool RPMS for LinuxPPC.
